About Matt Lamarque -
Owner and Head Personal Trainer at Garden Health & Fitness
Born and raised in Monterey, Matt’s love for health and fitness started
when he was 13 years old when he started working out with his dad Tony.
Three years later he was introduced to the sport of power lifting and
from there his competitive spirit has never slowed down. Throughout the
next 19 years, Matt was fortunate to win State, National, and World
Titles in the bench press. So far, the pinnacle of his career was when
he set All-Time Records in the 220lb. weight class with a bench press of
771lbs. and in the 242lb. weight class with a bench press of 801lbs. At
that time he became the lightest man in history to bench press 800lbs.
doing so at a bodyweight of 228lbs. Matt has been working as a personal
trainer helping clients to build strength and maintain a healthy, injury
free life.
Our Philosophy – The future we build for our children depends
on our actions today.
Matt and Deanna have strong roots on the Monterey Peninsula. They both
attended grade school, middle school, high school, the local community
college and continue to live within the city of Monterey. Living,
working and raising their family here in Monterey makes them aware of
the issues that their city, community and schools are dealing with every
day. In 2005, Matt and Deanna bought the Garden Health Center & Fitness
Club and are pleased to be a part of the fabric that makes up the
business community in Monterey.
Tourists often comment on how quaint the Monterey community is and that
it is still nice to see locally owned and operated businesses. The
community’s small business owners play a vital role in the city’s makeup
as they have a first hand account of what impacts the local economy.
Matt and Deanna make a conscious effort to support the other small
businesses within the community. They are proud to be part of the
historically rich community and want to retain the very thing that makes
the city unique. They encourage people to eat at the vast array of
fantastic locally-owned restaurants, shop at the quaint boutiques and
shops, and of course, join a locally owned gym.
